Made in PSP8

From this… to this…

1. Create a base ~ I started with this CAP that I resized and cropped to get the dark base above.

2. Now to lighten it… right click on the background on your layer pallet and duplicate the icon and set it to screen, then duplicate the screened layer 4 more times. Yes, 4. LOL Now you have 5 screened layers. Next, copy the base and drag to the top of the screened layers and set to SoftLight and Desaturate it. (Shift+H and set the saturation to -100) Merge/Flatten all.

3. Duplicate your new base and set it to Hard Light set to 30%. Sharpen that layer if needed, and then Merge Flatten again.

4. Go to the Enhance Photo feature and choose Automatic Contrast Enhancement and set to Bias:Lighter, Strength:Mild and Appearance:Bold. Then go back to Enhance Photo feature and choose Automatic Saturation Enhancement and set to Bias:Normal and Strength:Weak and check Skintones Present.

Now to add some textures, etc. ** Disclaimer for images, textures, brushes, etc. – I’ve collected a lot of these over the past year or so, and have no idea what belongs to who/whom. If you see something that you created, or know who created it, let me know and I’ll give proper credit.**
5. Add this image and set it to Screen 100%.

6. Add this image and set it to Soft Light 100%.

7. Add this image and set to Multiply 100%.

8. Add this image and set to Soft Light 100%. Use the Move Tool to push the leafy thing to the upper corner. Now we don’t want that opaque part over her face, so take an eraser and erase the portion over her face and soften around the edges of that leafy thing. I used the Streaky brush, set to Size 20, opacity at 50.

9. Next add this image and set to Burn 100% and use the Move Tool to slide the text to the bottom on the icon.

And you’re done.

Going from THIS to this or this

Can be made in PS7 and PSP8

1. Create a base ~ I started with this cap made by my good friend, Deeboy, and resized it to 200x200. Then I opened a new 100 x 100 transparent box, and copied/moved my resized image onto it. I used the move tool to push it around to where I like and then Merge Flatten.
2. Duplicate and set the new copy to Screen 80%
3. Duplicate the base and move it above the screened layer and set to Hard Light 100%
4. Staying on the Hard Light layer - Sharpen it and soften using your preferred means – I use a Xero Plugin called Improver, Set on 5, 20, 5 *(see how to get it below)
5. Merge Flatten and at this point I have this

** Disclaimer for images, textures, brushes, etc. – I’ve collected a lot of these over the past year or so, and have no idea what belongs to who/whom. If you see something that you created, or know who created it, let me know and I’ll give proper credit.
6. Add this Dark Blue Gradient set to Exclusion 100%
7. Add this CreamyLavender Texture set to (PS7=Color Burn)(PSP8=Burn) at 100%
8. Add a new layer and flood fill it with a medium pink, #ff9999, set to Soft Light 35%
9. No offense to the photographer in this pic, but I only want Shiri. So I add a new layer, and cover the photographer with Black #000000. If using PS7 choose the default spatter brush 24, if using PSP8, choose the Dry Brush, size 50, both in Opacity 100. If you get a little of the black on Shiri, just erase it.
10. Add this smokey image and set to Screen 100%. Slide it over to the left just a little bit, which will leave a black stripe down the right side, like this Then use the Smudge Tool, Size 19, Mode Lighten, Opacity 50, and pull the gray over the black stripe to extend the grayness. (I hope that made sense) SmudgeExample
11. Add this copper/light gradient, set to Hard Light 85%
12. Add this gray box and set to (PS7=Color Burn)(PSP8=Burn) at 100%
13. If you like, add some text. (I used PSP8 for this step) I wrote Shiri in color #FEE6BC using Enviro font in size 11.
And you’re done…
------------
For the second variation – just delete Steps 6’s Exclusion layer; Change Step 11’s copper gradient to Color(in PS7) or Color Legacy (in PSP8) 85%; then change Step 12’s gray box to Overlay 100%; last, add this brush in color #6B291B, set to Hard Light 30%

Envy Tutorial in PSP8

Made using PSP8

I started with this texture made by myrasis as my base.

Then I took this picture of Shiri from ‘shiri-online.com’ and cropped it close to her body and then resized the cropped version to 100 x 56, and pasted it onto the background as a new layer. I used the move tool to slide it to the right of the icon, like this.

Then I took the ‘magic wand’ and deleted the white portions around Shiri. Then I set my smudge tool to size 5, opacity 50% and gently went around Shiri to blend the tiny white bits that were left from the magic wand.

Next I duplicated the base and moved it to the top and set it to soft light, now there’s a faint line going down Shiri, so I took the round eraser brush set on size 8, opacity 40% and erased over Shiri.

Next, I took this brush made by ‘gender’ and saved it as an image and pasted it as a new layer, set to soft light, opacity 100.

Then I duplicated that layer and used the move tool slide it down so the duplicate text was near the bottom and used the eraser (dry brush, size 35, opacity 40) to erase and blend the top half into the rest of the icon.

Then I merged my layers and duplicated the ‘new’ background. I desaturated by using Adjust, Hue and Saturation, Hue/Saturation/Lightness, and set saturation to -100. Then I set my layer to Darken 100%. And Merge Flatten.

Next I use the Enhance Photo feature and chose Automatic Color Balance, Strength set at 30, Temp set at 5500, and Color Cast unchecked; then Automatic Contrast, set to Lighter, Mild and Bold; then Automatic Saturation set to Less Colorful and Weak, skintone unchecked.

Next I added a new raster layer and used this brush (found on 100 x 100 brushes by emo-text-brushes) in this green color #22401A.

Last, I added another raster layer and this Border brush in the same green color #22401A. And a final merge flatten to end up with ...

To Lighten/Brighten Darker Bases using PSP8

These were made using PSP8, which has an 'Enhance Photo' feature. I'm not sure if other PSP editions have this feature or something similar. Also, one of the last steps includes the use of a Xero plugin called “Improver” which is included in Set 2, available here. You can skip this step, but I have found the feature to be well worth the download.

Tut#1: Dark Orangey Base...

From to

I started with this cap and reduced the image size to Width 197 x Height 110. Then I opened a new 100 x 100 transparent box and copied the reduced image and pasted it onto the transparent box as a new layer. Taking the move tool, I moved the pic around to where I wanted it, and went to Layer-Merge-Merge All Flatten. This gave me the dark image posted above.

Duplicate the new base and set it to Screen 100%, and duplicate the Screened layer two more times. With Copy 3 highlighted, go to Adjust - Hue and Saturation - Hue/Saturation/Lightness. Set Saturation at -100, leaving the layer set at Screen 100%. Next, duplicate the base and move it to the top, set at Soft Light 30. It looks like this…

Now add a new layer and flood fill with #01597D, set to Exclusion 50%.

Then add another new layer and flood fill with #C0C0FF, set to Burn 50%.

My pic and pallet at this point look like this. Then merge all flatten.

Next, I used several selections under the Enhance Photo option on the tool bar: I chose Automatic Contrast Enhancement and set to Darker, Normal, Bold. Then I chose Automatic Saturation Enhancement and set to Less Colorful and Weak, Skintones off. Then I chose Edge Preserving Smooth set to 2, and still under Enhance Photo I chose Sharpen.

If you don’t have the Xero plugin – you can skip this next step… or go to Effects, and under the Xero plugin choose Improver, and set at 5/20/5 respectively.

Duplicate your adjusted background and set it to Multiply 20%. Merge Flatten, and… Final Result

Tut #2: Dark Bluish Base…

From to

To get my base, I took this cap, and reduced the image size to Width 197 x Height 110. Then I opened a new 100 x 100 transparent box and copy the reduced image and paste it on the transparent box as a new layer. Taking the move tool, I moved the pic around to where I wanted it, and went to Layer-Merge-Merge All Flatten. This gave me the dark image posted above.

Duplicate the base and set to Screen 100%, then duplicate that screened layer three more times, and with Copy 4 highlighted, go to Adjust - Hue and Saturation - Hue/Saturation/Lightness. Set Saturation at -100, leaving the layer set at Screen 100%. Next, copy the original base and move it to the top and set to Soft Light 30%.

Now, add a new layer and flood fill with an orangey color; I used #EE9226

and set the layer to Soft Light 100%. Merge Flatten.

Use the Enhance Photo option on the tool bar. First choose Auto Color Balance, Strength 30, check remove color cast, Temperature at 6500; next choose Auto Contrast, Neutral, Normal, Bold; then choose Auto Saturation, Less colorful and Normal, Skintones off; then Edge Preserving Smooth, set at 2; and last, choose Sharpen.

If you don’t have the Xero plugin – you can skip this next step… or go to Effects, and under the Xero plugin choose Improver, and set at 9/30/9 respectively.

Duplicate your adjusted base and set it to Multiply 10%. Merge Flatten. Final result…
